New show coming in the AlegriaGaleria, featuring Denver based painter, Janelle W. Anderson, titled, “Backyard Moon.” Opening officially on Friday, May 9th at Manos Sagrados.
After graduating with a BFA from Metro State University in Denver, CO in 2011, Janelle W Anderson began exhibiting layered mylar drawings influenced by existentialism, the ephemeral, dreams, and memory. These evolved into collage-style paintings where images intersect with a dream-like cadence, prompting curiosity about memory, perception of time, and physicality.
Anderson’s latest body of work, Backyard Moon, captures quiet moments of observation in her daily meditation of moon gazing from her yard and surrounding neighborhood in Southwest Denver.
Anderson has received several accolades throughout her career, including the Nagel Art Thesis Award and Honorable Mention for her thesis installation at Metro State. She was a member of Denver co-op Pirate: Contemporary Art from 2011 - 2014, and completed a residency with the Firehouse Art Center in Longmont, CO in 2021.
Anderson is currently an Artist in Residence at RiNo ArtPArk, in Denver.
Most recently, Anderson completed and installed a large-scale, multi-panel commission for the Freudenthal Library at Trinidad State College in Aug. 2024.
